The history of folding kayaks can be traced back to Inuit Kayaks which were constructed from animal bones and wood. The first modern kayak was made by a German architect Alfred Heurich in 1905 who received a patent for the design which featured a bamboo kayak frame with a sail cloth stretched over the hull.
